An activity termed ‘Dress me Up’ was conducted online on 5th May, 2021 by an industry expert Ms. Vishwa Shah for semester fourth students. The objective of this assignment was to bring out the spontaneous creativity of the students. Various interesting characters like Circuit from the movie Munna Bhai M.B.B.S, Lakshmibai from Manikarnika and Akshay Kumar from Bhool Bhulaiyaa and image of a lady from the cover of Vogue magazine were displayed on the screen. Students were expected to get inspired from the images in their own creative manner and style themselves in the limited given time. The outcome was just superb!!!!! Students not only put in their 200% efforts to prove their talent in styling themselves in the best possible manner. The session was not only a learning one but also proved to be stress buster for many. To celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Sophia Polytechnic in collaboration with Sophia college, organized a state-level Seminar titled “The Relevance of Gandhi in the 21st Century” in memory of his love for Khadi. It was kickstarted with a conference attended by eminent speakers like Mr. Tushar Gandhi, the great grandson of Mr. Gandhiji, Dr. Usha Thakkar, Dr. Kannama Raman and the head of the department Dr. (Mrs.) Jignasa Shah who also presented a thought provoking paper on Khadi titled “Khadi: India’s Signature Fabric”.Dr. Shah conveyed the message to the audience to atleast have one garment of Khadi in their wardrobes rather than running behind “fast fashion” -imported brands / low cost garments. This act would benefit the world as these are not only sustainable but also unique in nature which can strengthen our country too. Following it, under the guidance of faculty Mrs. Manisha Saji and Ms. Rizvana Ansariya, the final year students showcased their ‘Tvashtar’ collection that was based on sustainability to highlight the importance of this event. The first year students modelled the ensembles as well as groomed themselves to present the collection enthusiastically. This program hence, brought forth the significance of the use of sustainability and Gandhiji’s teachings of the same.
