Sophia Polytechnic it is run by the Society for the Higher Education of Women in India (SHEWI), a Trust belonging to the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Polytechnic is part of an international network of Sacred Heart schools and colleges, which share a 200-year old philosophy of education that was promoted by a visionary educationist, Madeleine Sophie Barat, who founded the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1800 in France. Sophia Polytechnic is predominantly a women’s polytechnic.
The Department of Dress Designing and Garment Manufacturing (DDGM), which conducts a three-year diploma course recognised by the Directorate of Technical Education.
Backed by a doctorate in science with “Eco Friendly Innovative Textile Printing” from Mumbai University. Dr. Shah has been with the institute for 26 years and is instrumental in upgrading the department.
She is a recipient of many awards and certifications in past years, and has won the “Mid-Career Award” at the Biennial Conference of Home Science Association of India and also an award for the best paper presentation at the International Conference, Green Fashion India, Mumbai. She is a member of the steering committee of GFI and a member of the Society of Dyers and Colourists
