International Yoga Day

The department had organised a yoga session on International Yoga Day. Celebrity & "Z' Marathi host of "Phatafat Yoga", Ms. Dipti Deshpande conducted the session in a fun filled manner. She explained the importance of yoga and health care in today's world. It was a wonderful and refreshing session where the girls were able to concentrate on their inner selves amidst their busy lives. Creative Designing

The students of the 3rd semester had a fun and creative session during their Design Process class conducted by Ms. Vishwa Shah (FIT graduate). The students had to select a shape and create multiple copies of it in various sizes which would further be used to create designs. The aim of this session was to think out of the box while creating 3D designs. The classroom was a flurry of students running around, enthusiastically creating, and experimenting designs full of colour. The end result was more than satisfactory. Students were looking at their creations with pride and happiness and the teachers were reflecting these emotions too. According to the students it was a necessary step to bring out their creativity and passion into reality.

TERM END GARMENT JURY

Term end garment jury for the second semester was conducted on 22nd March, 2018. The garments were designed and created by the students themselves.

ANNUAL EXHIBITION 2018

The 2nd Year students developed their own fabric by using different dying techniques and the emphasis was on using Natural dyes. Using these fabrics they developed garments for different age group which they put on sale during the Annual Exhibition 2018. The best collections are decided by an external jury, comprising of industry experts. The Final Year Students create an interesting display for their Tvashtar collections during these days

Max Design 2018

Congratulations! to Ms. Cyron Rodrigues, our final year student was chosen as a finalist amongst the top 15 contestants across India to showcase her creations during the ‘Max Design Awards 2018 ’. The theme this year was ”Craftivism” which focuses on sustainability and saving the environment. Cyron’s perspective was to give discarded clothes a new life by recycling them into a new fabric. She also used denim which was dyed using the traditional method of underground pit dyeing with vegetable dyes. She showcased her garments on 21st February, 2018 at Delhi. We are very proud of her.

2nd YEAR JURY - EXHIBITION GARMENTS

WORKSHOP ON SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT

This workshop was organized under the subject ‘Environmental Studies’ which was conducted at SMART ECOPARK, Panvel on 9th & 10th January’ 18 where the 2nd year students learnt alternatives to lead a sustainable life learning about rainwater harvesting, conserving solar energy, use of gray water for plantation, animal barning etc. thus making the most of resources available to us creating an eco-friendly environment.

WORKSHOP AT SHAHPUR

The first-year students had been to Shahpur for a 4-day Workshop from 2nd to 5th January, 2018 on health, yoga, meditation, stress & time management for the subject ‘Career Skills’. They came back with a rejuvenating experience.

OUTREACH PROGRAMME

We know how great it feels to receive gifts, however the joy of getting is short lived. Our lives are richer when we share and that inner joy comes from helping others, to better their lives. Truly giving from heart, fills your heart with joy and nourishes the soul. Exactly why our students joined hands and took an initiative to reach out to the needy, at Dharavi- Sri Sri Ravi Shankar school children. Students taught them stencil printing, painting with acrylic colors along with playing gifts. To sum up to find yourself lose yourself in the service of others. True joy lies in the act of giving, without an expectation of receiving something in return.

NATURAL DYING WORKSHOP AT CIRCOT

A workshop was organized for 2nd year students at CIRCOT on 7th and 8th December, 2017. Students learnt the process of natural dyeing and use of natural resources as an alternative to chemicals.

Workshop on ‘How to Achieve One’s dream and Goals’

The department of DDGM at Sophia Polytechnic had a very insightful and enlightening experience on Tuesday the 21st of November, 2017. The guest lecturer for the day was Mr. Chinmay Joshi. He spoke about how to realize our dreams and goals. He also exhorted the students to cast out uncertainty if any in their said goals. It was an interactive session in which students came up and spoke about their experiences and dreams.

Redwingz Fashion Fervent & SDC, 2017

HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! To Ms. Itrat Bachooally our talented final year DDGM student who was selected for the final round of REDWINGZ ‘Fashion Fervent’ a unique fashion talent contest. Her collection was showcased at ‘The Grand fashion show’ at The J.W.Marriott, Mumbai on 12th Oct, 2017. She was also short listed for SDC design competition, held in August 2017

National Conference on Sustainability in Fashion “Creating A Global Vision” held on 15th and 16th September, 2017 at IIS university – Jaipur

Dr. Jignasa Shah and Mrs. Manisha Saji’s paper on “Khadi with a Rogan Connection” was selected as one of the 14 from 65 entries for “oral presentation” and they won the 3rd prize.

INDUSTRY INTERACTION 2017 & 2018

This year too the students of first years as well as second years were sent for the dealers meet for the brand SPYKAR and DEAL jeans at ‘The Lalit’ which gave them the insight of the industry functioning. This also helped them to apply their soft skills, communication skills and grooming while handling the buyers across India.

The Consortium Of Green Fashion

The CGF (Consortium of Green Fashion) an international conference held on 29th, 30th September and 1st October 2016. There were 3 groups from the Final Year students who participated in the design competition and from the 3 prizes the 1st & the 2nd Runner’s up was from our department. They even participated in the Quiz competition and won the 2nd Prize.

PIDILITE WORKSHOP 2017

A two day Pidilite workshop was conducted on 27th and 28th November 2017, for our second year students. Ms. demonstrated the use of Pidilite products for creating various stationery items like paper weights and clothing accessories etc. The students learnt to apply various art and craft techniques using these products like Kalamkari, Warli and Madhubani paintings. The girls even tied and dyed their own fabrics using Pidilite colours. The workshop with a fun learning experience.
